REGIONAL WORKSHOP ON “The Research process, Biostatistics, Communicating Science, Research Ethics and Grantsmanship”


Date: 26-28th November 2019

A workshop was conducted  on “The Research process, Biostatistics, Communicating Science, Research Ethics and Grantsmanship” in Sri Adichunchanagiri College of Pharmacy, B.G Nagara, Karnataka where eminent speakers across the country has shared their insights on the topic. Dr.S.V Rajendra (HOD, Dept. Of Pharmacology) along with all M Pharm students of all departments has attended  the workshop for two days

Day 1

The session started with Dr. G. Jagadeesh (Senior, Expert Pharmacologist, Division of Cardiovascular and Renal Products US Food and Drug Administration, Silver Spring, MD, USA) and spoke on Generating potential research ideas and hypotheses: The basic concepts and cornerstones of a research project & Understanding the basic structure of a good research paper, Getting the paper to the right journal: selecting a journal, impact factor, cover letter, peer-reviewing etc.

And the next session started by Dr. K. Vijayalakshmi (Associate Professor, Department of Neurophysiology, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India) and she gave her insights on Diverse ways to construct scientific literature search for empathizing and exploring the ideas.

After this session there was a lunch break.

Post lunch the session started with Dr. S. Manikandan (Associate Professor, Department of Pharmacology, JIPMER, Pondicherry, India) who spoke on Quotational and reference accuracy in bibliographic writing and application of referencing management software.

The day ended with Dr. S. Manikandan with a session on Statistical considerations in research design, analysis and practical demonstration.

Day 2

The second day session was started by Dr. B. N. Srikumar (Associate Professor, Department of Neyrophysiology, NIMHANS, Bengaluru, India) spoke on Quotational and reference accuracy in bibliographic writing and application of referencing management software.

The next session was by Dr. K. Byrappa (Pro VC & Dean Research, Adichunchanagiri University, B.G. Nagara) on Research Grants Proposal and Writing.

Post lunch the session started with Dr. C. Adithan (Dean-Research, Professor of Pharmacology, Sri Balaji Vidyapeeth, Puducherry, India) and spoke on Current funding opportunities in biomedical sciences

The next session was by Dr. Bhushan Patwardhan (Professor, Vice-chairman, University Grants Commission, New Delhi, India) who spoke on Integrity in scientific research and publication ethics.

The day ended with Dr. I.R.N. Goudar (Formerly Scientist ‘G’ and Head, ICAST, NAL, Bangalore, Adjunct Professor, ACU) gave his insights on Publishing quality research papers and quality indicators.

Post all sessions there was a Panel discussion and feedback sessions and the day ended all our Mpharm students are  enlighted with a good exposure on Research journals, publishing papers and how to select a good journal and many more.
